Method of Change:
Inception of the Aflatoun Program
Growing up in Mubai, saw the poverty that surrounded the children of India. Compelled to make a social change for the good of these children, she founded an organization called Meljol, which allowed kids to meet with others across all social classes. In 2005, she founded the organization Aflatoun to teach children about financial responsibility and how saving a small amount of money each week can help give them financial independence. According to their website, “Aflatoun’s dream is the reduction of poverty with the help of socially and financially empowered children. We believe that children should be taught to understand their rights and responsibilities and strive to ensure that child financial education is viewed as a right for every child across the globe.” Currently, the program is active in 81 countries and has reached over 1 million children.
